Somewhere between becoming a mother and watching my three boys grow faster than I was ready for, I understood what photography was really for. Not decoration. Not content. Not something to post and forget.
It is the only thing that can hold a moment still.
The weight of a newborn on your chest. The way your bump caught the last light of the evening. The sound of your child's laugh before it changed into something older. These things slip through our hands before we ever think to hold on.
I became a photographer because I couldn't bear that.
I'm Sarah, a Mackay-based portrait photographer, mother of three boys, and someone who has spent the past several years refining a craft I fell into by instinct and stayed in by conviction.
My work lives at the intersection of fine art and feeling. I photograph maternity, newborn and family portraits for women who understand that this season, however beautiful, however exhausting, will not come back. And who want something worthy of it.
I'm not interested in rushed sessions or forgettable galleries. Every portrait experience I create is considered from the very first enquiry to the final artwork on your wall. The light, the timing, the styling, the editing, nothing is left to chance, because these images are not just photographs. They are heirlooms.
I've lived in Mackay most of my life, raised my three boys here, and I know its coastline, its golden mornings, its long still evenings and its hidden pockets of beauty intimately. It is home, and it shows in everything I create here.
Every woman I photograph is different, and I've learned that the best sessions happen when I stop trying to direct them into a pose and start paying attention to who they actually are.
Some women need gentle guidance and quiet reassurance. Others relax the moment we start talking and forget the camera exists entirely. I read the room. I follow the light. And somewhere in between, the real moments appear.
My Approach

I start by getting to know your vision and understanding the feeling you want your images to hold. For outdoor sessions, I scout the location and plan the light so everything feels intentional from the beginning.

Before the shoot, I prepare all gear, confirm details, and ensure styling and creative elements are aligned. You’ll feel supported and ready long before we start.

On the day, I arrive early, read the light, and guide you gently through a calm, effortless session. I create space for natural connection while capturing a curated mix of refined, emotive moments.

Afterward, I carefully select and edit the strongest images, delivering a polished gallery that feels cohesive, elevated, and true to your story. I follow up to make sure everything is perfect.
